Indian Railways has approved a Rs 175 crore project to create additional homing facilities for 250 three-phase electric locomotives at the High Horse Power (HHP) Diesel Shed in Raipur under the South East Central Railway (SECR).According to the Ministry of Railways, the project is aimed at strengthening locomotive maintenance infrastructure in line with the expansion of the electric locomotive fleet and the growth in freight and passenger operations across the network.Homing refers to the assignment of a locomotive to a designated locomotive shed, which serves as its primary maintenance base. The homing shed is responsible for scheduled maintenance, safety inspections, repairs and overall upkeep of the locomotive.The ministry said the additional homing facilities will enable Indian Railways to make better use of existing infrastructure while creating space for future technological expansion at the Raipur depot.
