Mercedes-AMG is expanding the electric CLA line-up with a particularly high-performance variant. The new CLA 45 4MATIC+ features three axial flux motors, a system output of 500 kW, and is set to be offered in two body versions. The Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ uses three axial flux motors with a system output of 500 kW.Image: Mercedes-Benz GroupMercedes-AMG has unveiled the all-electric CLA 45 4MATIC+. The model is available as a saloon and ‘Shooting Brake’ and is the first vehicle in the CLA series to be equipped with three axial-flux motors. Two of these motors are positioned at the rear axle, with a third at the front axle. The system delivers a peak output of 500 kW, with the manufacturer quoting an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 2.71 seconds. Mercedes-AMG recently introduced this motor technology in the GT 4-Door Coupé and is now deploying it in this segment for the first time. The drivetrain concept includes three axial-flux electric motors (two at the rear axle and one at the front axle), which provide a peak output of 500 kW and a continuous output of 450 kW. The maximum torque is 1,759 Nm. Power is transmitted to the road via the fully variable all-wheel-drive system, AMG Performance 4MATIC+. The energy storage system is a 94 kWh battery based on an 800-volt architecture, enabling DC charging rates of up to 330 kW and AC charging rates of up to 22 kW. Mercedes-AMG has not yet provided details on charging times or the charging curve.Mercedes-AMG states that the WLTP range exceeds 670 kilometres for the saloon and 640 kilometres for the Shooting Brake. The CLA 45 4MATIC+ accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds, or 2.7 seconds when measured using the one-foot rollout method. The top speed is 250 km/h, increasing to up to 270 km/h with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package. The combined energy consumption ranges from 16.5 to 19.6 kWh per 100 kilometres, depending on the variant. The drivetrain is complemented by an adaptive suspension system and active aerodynamic elements, which enhance downforce at higher speeds via a rear or roof-edge spoiler, depending on the model.Mercedes-AMG offers the electric CLA 45 as both a saloon and a Shooting Brake. The CLA now also plays a strategically important role for Mercedes: After battery-electric vehicle sales declined in 2025, global BEV deliveries by the Mercedes-Benz Group rose by eleven per cent to 50,400 vehicles in the first quarter of 2026. The new CLA series is considered a key driver of this growth, with demand leading to three-shift production at the German carmaker’s Rastatt plant, according to the manufacturer. With the CLA 45, Mercedes is now expanding its model range into the performance segment.mercedes-benz.com
