RIYADH: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney departed from Jeddah on Friday, after a two-day official visit to Saudi Arabia.

On his visit to the Kingdom, the first by a Canadian prime minister in 26 years, Carney said that the two nations were well-placed to deepen mining and energy ties.

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received the prime minister met at Al-Salam Palace where they witnessed the exchange of several memoranda of understanding.

The agreements included the establishment of a Saudi-Canadian Coordination Council and investment in artificial intelligence and skills development.

Carney, who says US tariffs on key exports mean Canada must diversify its trade, has made a series of foreign visits over the last year in a bid to drum up business.
