The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned an alleged fake car dealer, Chukwuebuka Anacletus Ogbonna, before the Enugu State High Court over an alleged N15.4million fraud involving a failed vehicle importation deal.
Ogbonna, who reportedly operated under the business name Monpere's Autos, was arraigned by the Enugu Zonal Directorate of the EFCC before Justice Vincent Ezeugwu at the Enugu State High Court, Independence Layout, on a four-count charge bordering on stealing by conversion.
According to the anti-graft agency, the defendant allegedly fraudulently converted N15.4 million entrusted to him by a petitioner for the purchase and importation of three vehicles.
One of the charges alleged that Ogbonna, sometime in September 2023, fraudulently converted N4million belonging to Mr. Paulson Nwakoby, which was meant for the purchase of vehicles. Another count accused him of similarly converting an additional N4million between November 28 and December 10, 2023.
