Gerda Steyn is in no doubt that the Two Oceans Marathon is the race that convinced her to pursue a career in competitive running.
“For me, the Two Oceans has been such a big part of my entire career as an athlete. I fell in love with the race the first time I ran it, way back in 2016—without trying to reveal my age too much,” said Steyn on Thursday in Johannesburg.
Steyn was speaking in Sandton as Discovery was announced as the Official Health, Wellness and Banking Sponsor of the race.
“I remember that first time like it was yesterday. I just remember standing on the start line, knowing very well that I was part of something truly South African, and something much, much bigger than the individual.”
