MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday called on government officials to stop playing politics and advancing their own interests and instead focus on the betterment of the country.

This was what Duterte answered when asked of her message to the Filipino people amid the recent events in the country. Her impeachment trial already began last Monday, and is scheduled to run for 92 trial days.

“Unang-una, ipinapaabot ko sa ating mga opisyal ng pamahalaan na itigil na muna natin ang pamumulitika at pananawagan nila ng transparency at accountability, pero ang totoong pakay nila ay ang kanilang sariling political interest,” Duterte said in an interview during her attendance in the Araw ng Bigaan and fiesta celebration in Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
