GM John Chayka has made another round of changes behind the scenes by parting ways with several members of the club's hockey operations staff. As per reports, the latest departures include director of hockey strategy Sam Wallin, director of pro scouting Jim Paliafito, and player evaluation analyst Chris Bourque. It is also to be noted that earlier, the club had added Hockey Hall of Famer and Senators legend Daniel Alfredsson as the club's new associate coach, along with John Gruden and Greg Werenka as assistant coaches.Toronto Maple Leafs dismiss multiple front office staff members of the club’s hockey operationsThe Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly dismissed multiple front office staff during the ongoing offseason. The members were from the club’s hockey operations, which included prominent names like Sam Wallin, director of pro scouting Jim Paliafito, and player evaluation analyst Chris Bourque. The move comes as part of a broader organizational overhaul that began after Toronto missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2016. After taking over the charge of general manager, Chayka has wasted little time putting his stamp on the franchise, overseeing significant changes across the front office and coaching staff. According to a new report from The Toronto Sun, the Maple Leafs have removed multiple staffers. “A group of people were let go on Wednesday, the Toronto Sun has learned, including Darryl Metcalf, assistant general manager, hockey research and development; Mark Leach, director amateur scouting; and Dave Morrison, senior advisor, player personnel,” the report stated.While speaking about the recent dismissal from the job, Chayka added, “As part of our ongoing evaluation of the organization, we have made the difficult decision to part ways with some valued colleagues. He further added that these decisions were not easy and are not a reflection of the commitment of the people. “We are sincerely grateful for everything they have contributed to this organization and wish them nothing but the very best in the future,” the new general manager further added.Earlier, Chayka also removed head coach Craig Berube and replaced him with former Toronto assistant Jim Hiller. The new GM also did not retain assistants Derek Lalonde and Mike Van Ryn. In their place, the team has recently announced the arrival of Daniel Alfredsson as a new assistant on Hiller’s staff, appointing him the associate coach, along with John Gruden and Brad Werenka.Alfredsson has spent the past three seasons as an assistant with the Ottawa Senators. Before that, he worked in player development for Ottawa and was also an assistant for Sweden at the 2026 Winter Olympics. According to reports, Alfredsson played 1,246 NHL games with the Senators and Detroit Red Wings from 1995 to 2014. He spent 17 seasons with Ottawa, where his 426 goals, 682 assists, and 1,108 points are team records.These major changes emerging in the club indicate that Chayka is continuing to reshape the organization's hockey operations department with a focus on building a new management structure before they begin with the new season.
