The recall affects 2020 through 2024 models, stemming from front power seat motors that can overheat and potentially cause a fire, an issue for which they were previously recalled in 2024. NHTSA advises owners to park their Tellurides outdoors and away from buildings and other vehicles until the new repair is completed. Kia is aware of seven seat fires and 11 melted seat motors, which can occur if a dislodged or damaged seat switch causes the motor to operate continuously. Dealers will address the problem by installing an electronic fuse assembly to prevent continuous operation of the seat motor, with owners to be notified starting August 13.
