PITTSBURGH – The All-Star break may offer a good reset for the Atlanta Braves, who are ready for the second half to begin after going 17-20 since June 1, after being one of the best teams in baseball for the majority of the first half. After a 10-5 win over the Pirates Thursday afternoon at PNC Park, the Braves won their first series since June 21. They head to St. Louis for a three-game series against the Cardinals before five — and maybe more? — of their players represent their team in the All-Star Game in Philadelphia. Here are some news, notes and stories from the series this week in Pittsburgh:Ronald Acuña Jr. and Robert Suarez injury updatesEven if Acuña may not have been playing at the MVP-caliber level fans are accustomed to seeing, his presence is felt as the Braves are 37-16 with the star outfielder in the lineup. And with the way the Braves have played over the course of a month, he’s needed more than ever.“There’s a trickle-down effect when you’re having to deal with him at the top of the order,” manager Walt Weiss said Wednesday. “Even when he’s not rolling, he’s still such a presence that it’ll be a nice sight to see him back here.”Luckily for Atlanta, Acuña is on pace to go on a rehab assignment over the All-Star break, per Weiss. Acuña has not been traveling with the team, but during this past homestand, he was seen going through an intense workout while rehabbing a left hamstring strain he suffered almost a month ago.On the topic of injuries, Weiss said that the progress on Suarez has been slow as the team has been extra cautious with the setup man. It’s unlikely that he will be seen immediately after the All-Star break. The bullpen hasn’t looked out of place, but having Suarez’s league-leading 0.56 ERA would be a huge asset as this team continues to get out of a slump.
