A man’s been arrested in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland on suspicion of displaying threatening, abusive or insulting material, after a replica of a mosque was placed on top of a loyalist bonfire.
The pyre in the village of Moygashel is one of hundreds lit during the loyalist parade season each July.
Northern Ireland Secretary Hillary Benn described it as a “sickening and cowardly act of intimidation,” while other local politicians called it “deplorable” and “deeply irresponsible”. The group behind the effigy claimed it was an act of “political protest”.
