President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine has already significantly disrupted Russia’s fuel supply, as a result of which the aggressor country—which traditionally exported energy resources—is now forced to import fuel, in particular through Belarus.

According to a Ukrinform correspondent, the head of state made these remarks while speaking with journalists, responding to a question about whether Ukraine is capable of using diplomatic or other means to prevent fuel supplies to Russia from neutral countries such as India, China, and Kazakhstan.

“To be honest, your question sounds like a historical joke. It’s true. A country like Russia, whose economy has always been geared toward exporting its energy resources, is now scrambling to find fuel somewhere, to somehow increase its capacity to purchase and import fuel. So, will Ukraine get in the way? Ukraine has already done so. We’ve already done it,” he said.

Zelensky added that Belarus is currently among the countries helping Russia with fuel.

“I think if Yeltsin had known that in 20+ years, Russia would be importing energy resources instead of exporting them—all because it foolishly decided to start a war—I think Yeltsin would have chosen a different ‘successor,’” he said.
