July 9 (UPI) -- FIFA issued a two-game ban to England right back Jarell Quansah for the red card he received against Mexico at the World Cup, the governing body said Thursday.

Quansah received the red card in the 54th minute of the 3-2 Round of 16 victory on Sunday in Mexico City. He earned the foul for a tackle attempt on Mexico's Jesus Gallardo. Quansah left his right shoe up, exposing his studs and hitting Gallardo's left leg with his cleats during the play.

"The suspension will be served in the upcoming match(es) of the representative team of England in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and in accordance with art. 69 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code," FIFA said.

England will face Norway in a quarterfinal at 5 p.m. EDT Saturday in Miami Gardens, Fla. Should England advance, Quansah also would miss a semifinal meeting with Argentina or Switzerland.
