Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo
The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has advanced arguments for a recalibration of Nigeria’s federal structure, saying the ongoing national conversation on state police must go beyond operational concerns and address fundamental imbalances in the country’s socio-political and judicial systems.
Speaking during a town hall meeting on Arise TV, Soludo described the growing consensus on the establishment of state police as an inevitable and progressive step towards building a more effective and functional federal system.
Reflecting on the ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s federalism under President Bola Tinubu, the governor said they did not come as a surprise, recalling that the President, while serving as Governor of Lagos State, had consistently advocated the devolution of powers to sub-national governments.
He said he often referred to Tinubu as the “Professor of federalism” because of his commitment to creating a more functional federal system in Nigeria.
