FIFA confirmed their sanction on Thursday, with the England boss swiftly asking the FA to make clear their anger at the decision made by FIFA’s disciplinary committee.According to Sky Sports, Tuchel's anger stems from referee Alireza Faghan first being shown a still image of Quansah's studs on Jesus Gallardo's shin. His stance is that had he been shown a clip, he would have seen the defender get a touch on the ball before the contact. While IFAB rulings do not necessarily take that into account when it comes to endangering an opponent, it has been claimed that Tuchel is of the belief that it may have proved there was mitigation. The Three Lions are also unable to appeal the decision. FIFA officially confirmed the outcome in a statement on Thursday. That read: “The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed the following sanction on England’s national-team player Jarell Quansah, who was sent off as a result of a direct red card during the FIFA World Cup 2026 match between Mexico and England played on 5 July 2026 at Mexico City Stadium: 2-match suspension for a breach of article 14 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.“The suspension will be served in the upcoming match(es) of the representative team of England in the FIFA World Cup 2026 and in accordance with art. 69 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.”Quansah is therefore set to miss England's quarter-final against Norway and a potential semi-final against Switzerland or Argentina.Mirror Sport have approached The FA for comment.Tuchel is also likely furious because of FIFA's decision to suspend Folarin Balogun's ban for 12 months. He was of the belief it was not a sending off but he did question the process that led to it being overturned. He said: "To be clear it was not a red card. VAR got involved. The decision is made. Who overturns this decision and when and on what grounds? It’s strange for me. We want consistency."I think it is not a yellow card, Declan Rice [against Mexico]. Does France get the yellow card back for (Michael) Olise which was not a yellow card. Where does this start and where does this end? Do we appeal (Jarell Quansah red)?”France also failed in their appeal to have that booking removed, which means the Bayern Munich star will be suspended for a potential semi-final if he is cautioned against Morocco.Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, Nico O'Reilly and Harry Kane are the England players at risk of being suspended. Tuchel is already facing enough problems at right-back with Reece James in a race against time to be fit, while Djed Spence is also managing an issue.Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
