Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen reportedly played a key role in persuading Nigerian-American basketball star Chimezie Metu to sign for Galatasaray Basketball after personally speaking with his compatriot about the club and life in Turkey.
Metu, who had attracted interest from several EuroLeague clubs, has reportedly agreed to join the Turkish giants as Galatasaray continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new basketball season.
According to reports in Turkey, Osimhen’s glowing endorsement of both Galatasaray and Turkey proved decisive in convincing the Nigerian-American centre forward to choose the Istanbul club over other European offers.
The report claims the Galatasaray football star personally contacted Metu, sharing his experiences at the club and encouraging him to make the move. Osimhen’s positive references about the club’s passionate supporters, ambitious project and life in Turkey are believed to have played a significant role in the transfer.
Metu arrives with an impressive pedigree despite recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon suffered in March 2025.
