With its candlelit veranda overlooking the ocean, and a menu that was as divine as the view, the highly rated restaurant was the perfect place for the final night of our holiday in Costa Rica.
So you can imagine my bitter disappointment when we ended up in a fast food shack, eating fried chicken from polystyrene trays, followed by cheap cocktails in a nearby bar.
Such is life when you holiday with poorer friends.
For someone who regularly spends thousands on a week-long break, it was tough slumming it in dilapidated hotels, forgoing fine dining in favour of fast food and missing out on the more exciting day trips.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my girlfriends. We’re a group of eight and having met a decade before through a share love of hiking and yoga, we see each other almost weekly for yoga classes and group hikes.
