The police on Thursday arrested two minor siblings and their three friends for murdering a youth, who had an affair with the duo’s mother, in Pollachi.Two siblings aged 14 and 13, their friends aged 16, 17 and 19 were arrested for murdering Poovarasan (30), a native of Tirupattur.According to the police, Poovarasan had previously worked at a bakery run by the family of the siblings in Pollachi. The youth developed a relationship with the sibling’s mother, following which he was removed from work. Though he returned to his native place and took up employment elsewhere, he continued to visit Pollachi, leading to repeated disputes and threats from the bakery owner’s family.The police said Poovarasan visited the bakery on Wednesday and later consumed liquor with his relatives. The siblings confronted Poovarasan when he was proceeding towards Thiruvalluvar Thidal around 10.30 p.m. The minors, who also summoned three of their friends to the spot, assaulted Poovarasan, causing a fatal injury on his head.Though Poovarasan was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Pollachi, duty doctors declared him dead on arrival. The body was shifted to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital, Coimbatore, for post-mortem examination.The Pollachi Bazaar (west) police registered a case and launched an investigation into the murder.
