Flinders University, based in Adelaide, South Australia, will be the second Australian university to open a campus in Bengaluru.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted a Letter of Intent to Flinders University to establish its international campus in Bengaluru in early 2027.According to a release from the university, the decision to establish a campus in India was finalised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia. “Flinders officially received a Letter of Intent from India’s University Grants Commission (UGC). The announcement was made by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as part of the agreements struck during the visit,” the release said.Flinders University, based in Adelaide, South Australia, will be the second Australian university to open a campus in Bengaluru, after the University of New South Wales (UNSW), which is set to begin operations in August 2026. Two other international universities — the University of Liverpool and Lancaster University — are also scheduled to open campuses in Bengaluru in 2026. Colin Stirling, Flinders University Vice-Chancellor, said in the release, “The university is proud to be expanding into one of the world’s fastest-growing centres of innovation. Our Bengaluru campus will bring a Flinders education into a place where ideas and innovation, technology and entrepreneurship are translated into real-world impact every day.” Set to open in early 2027, the Flinders University campus in Bengaluru will welcome its first batch of undergraduate and postgraduate students in business and high-tech disciplines. The initial offerings will include degrees in Business, Computer Science and Information Technology, along with a Master of Information Technology and an MBA (Future Business), creating industry-linked pathways into Bengaluru’s innovation-driven economy.The campus will also create new exchange opportunities for Australian students, offering them exposure to one of the world’s leading hubs for biotechnology, information technology, software services and life sciences, the release said. Flinders has long-standing partnerships with institutions across India, including engineering programmes in Kerala and artificial intelligence research collaborations in Gujarat, and a landmark strategic partnership with the University of Hyderabad focused on advancing digital healthcare, it added.
