County officials in Georgia have denied an application for a large data center campus.
Local press, including Fox and WSB-TV, reports the Douglas County commissioners this week voted 4-1 against a rezoning request for a large campus outside Villa Rica, some 30 miles west of Atlanta.
East Village Dothan LLC was looking to develop a five-building campus on around 700 acres in the county, on land south of the Interstate 20 Liberty Road. The project would have totaled around 4.4 million sq ft (408,775 sqm).
The Douglas Sentinel reports EdgedConneX was the developer behind the application.
News of the project first surfaced last year via a Development of Regional Impact application with the Georgia Department of State Affairs. At that time, the application was for 11 data center buildings totaling 6.2 million sq ft (576,000 sqm), as well as four warehouses totaling 66,000 sq ft (6,130 sqm).
