The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has expressed solidarity with the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics, NAMDA, over its call to the Federal Government to quickly conclude negotiation with it over the implementation of the 2009 Agreement signed by university workers with the FG.

This is just as CONUA added that it is also in support of NAMDA’s threat to embark on industrial action if the FG fails to meet the demands of the union. In a statement endorsed by the National President of CONUA, Dr Niyi Sunmonu, and made available to our correspondent on Thursday, the union said it fully recognises the right of every registered trade union to pursue legitimate industrial options in defence of its members, in line with the Trade Union Act (2005), as amended.

“CONUA has taken note of the position of the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) on the ongoing renegotiation of the 2009 FGN University-Based Unions Agreement and its readiness to consider appropriate action if the process fails to deliver satisfactory outcomes.

“While the proposed Joint Action Front (JAF) is still being formalised, we stand in solidarity with NAMDA’s call for the timely conclusion of the renegotiation process and equitable treatment of all university-based unions. We urge the Chairman of the Renegotiation Committee, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, to conclude the assignment without further delay and invite all unions to sign their respective agreements.
