With a wind field size in the top 3% of all Pacific typhoons over the last 10 years and wind speeds of 110 knots, super typhoon Bavi is forecast to hit the Fujian coast Saturday, bringing torrential rain and floods.

China and Taiwan are bracing for what could be the biggest storm in years. The typhoon’s huge size – over 1,300km diameter – and moisture plume will bring heavy rainfall to eastern and central China, including parts of Hubei province and nearby areas that were already hit by flooding after Typhoon Maysak.
The expected emergence of El Nino in 2026 could drive up sea temperatures which fuel more frequent and intense typhoons.
