The European Union plans to hold intergovernmental conferences in Brussels next week with several candidate countries, including Ukraine, as part of the EU enlargement process.
Ukrinform obtained this information from a high-ranking EU diplomat who commented on the matter on condition of anonymity.
“Internal discussions within the EU Council are ongoing, but I think we are in a good position to hold intergovernmental conferences next week with Ukraine, Montenegro, Moldova, and Albania,” the source said.
The diplomat noted that the conferences are scheduled for July 14, the day the EU General Affairs Council will meet in Brussels.
The source reported that the topic of the intergovernmental meeting with Ukraine is the opening of Cluster 6 (External Relations) in the accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova, while some chapters may also be closed in the negotiations with Moldova and Albania.
