Molefe Fani, suspended SAPS Supply Chain Management head, worked at the National Treasury for four years, where he was responsible for transversal contracts.

The National Treasury has launched an investigation into a former employee after he was implicated in the testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in the awarding of transversal contracts.

Although the official was not mentioned, evidence presented recently at the Madlanga Commission has implicated SAPS head of procurement Molefe Fani, who was suspended in May in connection with tender-related irregularities such as Medicare24 Tshwane, owned by attempted murder-accused tenderpreneur Vusi “Cat” Matlala.

Fani joined SAPS in 2022 after working at the National Treasury for four years, where he was responsible for transversal contracts before becoming the acting chief procurement officer.

Transversal contracts are procurement arrangements facilitated by the National Treasury for goods and services required by multiple public sector entities.
