England are aiming for a spot in the World Cup semi-finals as they take on Norway on Saturday but former Premier League striker Troy Deeney has a major concern for the Three Lions11:44, 09 Jul 2026Troy Deeney believes England will come unstuck against Argentina should they reach the World Cup semi-finals. The Three Lions have reached the last eight in the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.‌They will take on Norway in the quarter-finals on Saturday. Before that game, former Watford striker Deeney has shared his concerns for Thomas Tuchel’s men, having explained that they have not hit the heights expected of them yet.‌Speaking to The Sun, he said: “England haven’t dominated one period of any game. My wife said to me the other day, that every time I speak about England, I sound like I hate them.‌“I don’t, I just have an expectation. It’s about what I’m told and what I see. We were told by Thomas Tuchel, we were going to be front footed and we were going to see a real different England.“I haven’t seen that yet in this tournament. My comparison is what he’s told me, not what I’ve made up. It’s not like I have this unrealistic expectation.“Every single game I’ve watched, I’ve been left with more questions. I don’t subscribe to the theory that because England won, we’re going to win the World Cup.”‌Should England beat Norway, they will take on either Switzerland or Argentina in the semi-finals. And Deeney believes that the South American side could potentially end England’s dream of lifting a second World Cup this summer. He added: “It’s going to be tough because we’ve struggled to break down well-organised low block teams.‌“They’re [Norway] a big team, so they’re not going to be afraid of set pieces. In fact, they’re going to try to impose themselves.“Theirs is a together team, a team that has no fear, because every time they’re just making history. And they’ve got that fella [ Erling Haaland ] up front.“I’m expecting us to win but at the moment I’d still fancy Argentina to beat us in the semi-final if we both get there. It’s time we put a performance together.”‌Luckily for England, they are set to avoid two of the pre-season favourites until at least the final. France are due to take on Morocco in the first quarter final on Thursday evening, while Spain will entertain Belgium tomorrow.England booked their place in the last eight with a memorable victory against Mexico at the Azteca, while Argentina were forced a stage a dramatic rescue act to find a way past Egypt.Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
