Good news for homeowners in France – only 11 towns with 40,000 residents or more have announced taxe foncière increases in 2026. But that doesn’t mean your bill will not go up.
An overwhelming majority of towns and city councils in France have decided not to increase their taxe foncière rates in 2026, according to a study published by Le Parisien newspaper.
With a few exceptions, anyone who owns a built property in France is liable for property tax, which contributes to the financing of local public services, such as schools, parks, and roads.
This tax is payable by the homeowner even if the property in question is rented out.
Bills should begin dropping through letter boxes for this year’s payment from around August 25th and should all arrive by early October. The deadline for payment is towards the end of October.
