Eswatini has confirmed the arrival of 11 more third-country nationals deported from the United States

The Kingdom of Eswatini has confirmed the arrival of 11 more third-country nationals deported from the United States, marking the fourth group of migrants transferred to the southern African kingdom under a controversial bilateral agreement that continues to attract sharp criticism from international human rights organisations.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Acting Government Spokesperson Thabile Mdluli confirmed that the latest group had arrived “under the existing bilateral arrangement with the Government of the United States of America.”

“This marks the fourth group of Third Country Nationals (TCNs) to arrive in the Kingdom under this agreement,” she said.

Mdluli said the individuals, who are “predominantly from African countries”, would have their fundamental rights respected and protected in accordance with Eswatini’s laws and its international obligations while they remain in the country.
