7.49pmThe coachesBy Sydney Swans coach Dean Cox will be on familar terrority back in Perth where he was an outstanding ruckman with the West Coast Eagles.Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir knows Cox well, coaching him for four years as an assistant at the Eagles and then the two men worked together on the coaching staff. The two men have stayed in touch and remain friends. The tactical battle will be fascinating, do the Swans revert back to the run and gun, or use the patience they showed against the Bulldogs?Fremantle have the best rated defence in the AFL, how can the Swans forward line break them down? Cox will have to decide how much time to use star midfielder Isaac Heeney, who is just the body profile to cause them problems.Dean Cox speaks to his playersvia Getty Images7.39pmThe match upsBy This is a game of some really intriguing match-ups, and it all starts in the ruck contest with Fremantle’s Luke Jackson going up against Sydney’s Brodie Grundy. It’s barely believable to imagine that just over two seasons ago, Grundy was appearing in the VFL as a sometime forward while at Melbourne. Now he’s in Sydney and, at 32, is playing some of the very best football of his career. Jackson presents another challenge altogether, given his follow-up work and athleticism. Whoever wants this early contest will set the tone. The Giants provided a bit of a template for the Swans in terms of rigid defence, pressure in the midfield and a big forward causing havoc. Keep an eye out for the Swans’ human clamp James Jordon and who he goes to: will it be star midfielder Caleb Serong? Sydney’s James Rowbottom will also look to curtail the elite running ability of Fremantle’s Jordan Clark from halfback. Finally, who do Fremantle send to Charlie Curnow? Alex Pearce is the likely man, with Brennan Cox battling with the in-form Hayden McLean.Brodie Grundy and Luke Jackson during the Swans-Dockers clash in round 2 last year.AFL Photos via Getty Images7.25pmHow Charlie Curnow is tracking so far this seasonBy 7.13pmHere’s how the teams are lining up tonightBy FREMANTLEB: B.Cox, A.Pearce, H.ChapmanHB: J.Clark, L.Ryan, K.WornerC: N.Erasmus, A.Brayshaw, J.O’MearaHF: M.Reid, M.Frederick, S.SwitkowskiF: P.Voss, J.Amiss, J.TreacyR: L.Jackson, C.Serong, S.BoltonI/C: J.McVee, M.Johnson, N.O’Driscoll, I.Dudley, M.CoxEMG: O.McDonald, B.Walker, C.ScerriIN: J.O’Meara, M.CoxOUT: H.Young (injured), S.Darcy (managed)SYDNEYB: C.Mills, W.Edwards, T.McCartinHB: D.Rampe, N.Blakey, H.CunninghamC: M.Roberts, E.Gulden, J.SerongHF: J.Jordon, J.Lloyd, J.RowbottomF: T.Papley, C.Curnow, H.McLeanR: B.Grundy, I.Heeney, Ch.WarnerI/C: H.Kyle, J.Hamling, T.Hanily, A.Sheldrick, C.ClearyEMG: R.Bice, Co.Warner, L.MelicanIN: T.PapleyOUT: Co.Warner (omitted)7.11pmGood eveningBy Good evening footy fans, it’s Jonathan Drennan here to take you through tonight’s action.Games like tonight are what make the AFL season great, we have the ladder leaders Fremantle in Perth set against the second-placed Sydney Swans.Fremantle have looked the model of consistency this season, until last week against the Giants, going down by 21 points in the nation’s capital. Jake Stringer kicked a career-high seven goals and possibly gave a template to Swans full forward Charlie Curnow, fresh off six majors in his team’s win against the Bulldogs. I’m really looking forward to this one.Charlie Curnow and Hayden McLean proved far too much for the Western Bulldogs to handle.AFL Photos1 of 1
