Kelly Gray, mother of 34-year-old David Nolan-Hersey, who has autism and an intellectual disability, is seeking $100,000 in damages, claiming staff negligence. Nolan-Hersey was bitten on the hand by another resident in October 2025 and became violently ill on October 31, but did not receive medical treatment until the next day. He was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis at Tampa General Hospital, a rare and serious bacterial infection requiring immediate medical care. As a result of the infection, Nolan-Hersey had two fingers amputated and permanently lost function in his right hand, with the lawsuit alleging systemic understaffing and inadequate training.
