A United States federal judge has ordered that nearly $5.8 million be released to journalist and writer E. Jean Carroll after President Donald Trump lost his appeal in the civil case that found him liable for sexually abusing and defaming her.
The order, issued on Wednesday by Judge Lewis Kaplan in New York, authorised the disbursement of the original $5 million judgment awarded to Carroll, along with nearly $800,000 in accrued interest, according to ABC News
The ruling followed the U.S. Supreme Court's decision last month to unanimously decline Trump's request to review the case, effectively allowing the judgment against him to stand.
A New York jury in 2023 found Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll in a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in the mid-1990s.
