Craig KerryJuly 9, 2026 — 3:23pmThe Matt Smith stable hopes heavy-track specialist Prima Bella will be worth the wait and last-start winner Anythink Goes can gain a start at Randwick on Saturday.Randwick was a heavy 9 on Thursday with the prospect of more rain on Friday likely to create ideal conditions for Prima Bella in race six, a benchmark 78 handicap over 1000m.Ash Morgan lifts Prima Bella (left) to victory at Randwick on May 23. Getty ImagesThe five-year-old mare, $5 with the TAB, won an identical race on a heavy 9 at Randwick on May 23 when first up before finishing more than four lengths off the impressive Ice Kool on a soft 5 track there on June 6.Smith, who is overseas on holiday, has kept her fresh for another 1000m test on likely heavy going with a strong trial in between, and the stable was pleased with her work. Prima Bella has won three of four runs on heavy tracks.“Obviously she thrives on that ground and she ran pretty well fresh the last time there over that distance,” stable representative Jamie Smith said.“She’s in good order, she galloped well this week and, obviously, she’ll like the track and a couple of others there won’t, so she’s well in with a chance.”Anythink Goes ($6.50) was first emergency for the seventh, a 1800m benchmark 88 handicap, as the Warwick Farm stable looks to strike again with the seven-year-old, which ended a 874-day drought last week at Rosehill in a 2000m benchmark 78.“He’s bounced out of that race,” Smith said.“He’s eaten up and done everything we want to see. Obviously, he’s had an easy week, but he’s a fit horse. He’s been on the scene for a while after having a couple of runs where he’s just kind of had a chequered passage.“He’s not had a really testing prep, and it looks a nice race for him, and he’s drawn well. Hopefully he gets a run.”Stablemate Time Quest ($51) is in the same race, but he has also accepted for Sunday’s South Grafton Cup.“He’s obviously drawn a little bit tricky [in 13], but he’ll like the conditions,” he said of the Randwick race. “He does need to lift and we are expecting him to improve.”Meanwhile, trainer Adrian Bott is hoping for a change in luck from gate one for Sly Boots, which was battling for favouritism in the seventh at $4.40.Rachel King rides Sly Boots, which has missed a place in four runs this preparation but was impressive in finishing fourth last start despite a wide run without cover.“Sly Boots is going great,” Bott said. “He’s been running well. He doesn’t have much luck in his races. He seems in good shape.”Conchiero ($5.50) was another chance for Tulloch Lodge in the eighth. He was fourth last start on a heavy Kensington track carrying 60 kilograms.“Conchiero is stepping up in grade; he stuck on all right the other day,” Bott said. “We’ve got him up in grade and trip, just trying to get a bit of weight relief.”From our partners
