BACOLOD CITY—A state seismologist has warned against destructive lahar flows in downstream communities of Kanlaon Volcano after it had a moderate eruption on Thursday morning.

Mari Andylene Y. Quintia, resident volcanologist at the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), called on authorities and residents in nearby areas of Kanlaon to remain vigilant and continue to monitor updates.

Quintia said lahar flows could be spawned by the expected heavy rains of Typhoon ‘Inday.’
