NewsUK NewsNorthumbria PoliceNorthumberland Police have launched a search alongside the Coastguard to locate the 19-year-old man after him and another man capsized when out at sea in a kayak01:27, 09 Jul 2026Police have launched a search for a teenager who is believed to have died after going to into the sea in a kayak.Officers were called by HM Coastguard at about 9.15pm on Tuesday after reports of a man being in the water near Boulmer, Northumberland.Police said a kayak carrying two men capsized, and one man was able to swim to a buoy before being rescued by the Coastguard.However, the 19-year-old, was not able to be rescued by the Coastguard.The force continue to search for the man and have warned the public to allow them to do so independently, but have said they now believe that sadly, the 19-year-old man has tragically died.Chief Inspector Jon Caisley, of Northumbria Police, said: "This is a very tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the man’s loved ones as this time. We will continue to support them in any way that we can, and would ask that their privacy is respected."Searches continue but due to challenging circumstances, we are not able to provide any timescales around our efforts to recover the man.
