EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos

EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has urged North Macedonia to move ahead with constitutional amendments recognizing Bulgarians as part of the country’s constitution, saying this remains the key condition for advancing its European Union accession process.

In an interview with North Macedonia’s state news agency MIA during her visit to the country, Kos said the path toward opening the next stage of membership negotiations is already clearly defined.

According to her, once the constitutional changes are adopted, the second intergovernmental conference with the EU will take place, allowing North Macedonia to continue the accession process alongside Montenegro, Albania, Moldova and Ukraine.

“The clearest certainty that North Macedonia has regarding the start of EU accession talks is already in writing,” Kos said.
