Between toilet rats and skyscraper-window glass shards, there’s no telling what your feet will encounter in the Big City (or any city for that matter). Not all sandals are up to par for jumping over a goldfish puddle. So having the right pair, be it a flip-flop, slide, or wedge, can make all the difference in surviving the Upper East Side and elsewhere. If you know the risk involved in showing toe, and are prepared to brave a sandal anyway, here are the Strategist team’s favorite “city sandals” — as in, sandals that protect you from what’s on the sidewalk, are comfortable enough to walk for miles, and look stylish (not outfit ruining) — from easy-to-clean Tevas to “less crunchy” Birkenstocks.
