The U.S. military is conducting fresh strikes on Iran, the U.S. Central Command said Wednesday, hours after President Donald Trump declared that an interim agreement to end the war with Iran was "over."
It said the strikes were aimed at degrading Iran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
"The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway," U.S. Central Command wrote in a post on X.
Earlier, Trump said the U.S. would hit Iran "hard" if needed but expected the latest fighting to subside quickly and said the door remained open to more talks.
The U.S. leader had earlier said the cease-fire with Iran was over after the latest fighting, which led mediators Pakistan and Qatar and the United Nations to call for de-escalation.
