Mervyn Naidoo, the Daily News' Content Manager lands the 2026 Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism award in the 'Hard News' category.
In a celebration of journalistic excellence, Mervyn Naidoo, the Daily News' content manager, was honoured at the 2026 Standard Bank Sikuvile Journalism Awards with the award in the Hard News category.
The prestigious event, co-hosted by the South African National Editors’ Forum (SANEF) and Standard Bank, and held in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, recognised the pivotal role that media played in society during one of its most competitive years yet.
Naidoo's award-winning piece, “Durban pharmacist’s desperate SOS to husband as her vehicle sank in a river”, highlighted his engaging storytelling and unwavering commitment to uncovering the pressing issues affecting South Africans.
Reflecting on his victory, Naidoo expressed his gratitude, saying: “I am always grateful to God for everything that I am able to achieve. I also want to appreciate my family for their continuous love and support, as well as Independent Media and the Daily News editorial team for their efforts.”
