Justin Bieber has joined as a co-headliner for the FIFA World Cup Final halftime show.
Bieber joins the previously announced headliners Madonna, Shakira and BTS for the halftime performance, scheduled to take place July 19 at New York New Jersey Stadium. Additional performers include Burna Boy, conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus, made up of 4th and 5th graders from an elementary school in Staten Island, who will be featured alongside Coldplay. Coldplay’s Chris Martin is curating the 11-minute halftime show.
The halftime show is produced by Global Citizen and will help raise funds for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which has a goal of raising $100 million to expand access to education and football for children worldwide. Kermit, Miss Piggy and some of the Muppets will also appear in the halftime show, in an effort to underscore the educational message.
The show will mark Bieber’s first public performance since his much-discussed headlining set at Coachella back in April.
“The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way nothing else can,” Bieber said. “I’m grateful to be part of this Halftime Show, and even more grateful knowing it’s already helping expand access to education for children around the world.”
