Whittaker / Icon Sportswire via Getty ImagesJuly 8, 2026 1:58 pm EDT Updated The New York Islanders’ uniform rotation will feature a fan-designed third jersey in 2027-28, the team announced in a release, billing the promotion as the first of its kind in NHL history.Fans can enter their submissions online, after which undisclosed members of an Islanders “team committee” will select five finalists. The public will then vote on the winner.An online design tool on the team’s website guides entrants through choosing pre-selected options for stripping, colors, the logo and shoulder patch. Since there are finite options for all of those categories — which the release says ensures all submissions fit the NHL’s official jersey templates — fans can also leave notes with other ideas and details they’d like considered.“Our (third jersey) will truly belong to the fans, born from their passion and chosen by their voice,” said Kelly Cheeseman, the Islanders’ president of business operations, in the release.The Islanders wore home blue uniforms and white road ones during the 2025-26 regular season, when they finished 43-34-5 and missed the playoffs. They have not had a third jersey since 2024, their last of six seasons with an alternate blue edition.
