MANILA, Philippines — As Super Typhoon Inday is forecast to pass closest to Extreme Northern Luzon and enhance the southwest monsoon that could bring adverse weather to other parts of the country, San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, as president of the Metro Manila Council (MMC), attended the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC) meeting to assess Metro Manila’s preparedness.

During the meeting, MMDRRMC member LGUs and national government agencies were briefed on the latest weather forecasts and the potential impacts of the approaching weather disturbance. Officials discussed preparedness measures to be undertaken by local government units and concerned agencies to mitigate flooding and ensure public safety.

Mayor Zamora reminded fellow local chief executives and concerned agencies to ensure that waterways, canals, rivers, and creeks are cleared of obstructions; that all pumping stations are fully operational, adequately staffed, and supplied with sufficient diesel fuel; that preventive tree pruning and the removal of hazardous trees are carried out immediately; that disaster response equipment, rescue assets, food boxes, and other relief supplies are already prepositioned; and that evacuation centers should be ready to accommodate residents should the need arise.FEATURED STORIES
