Residents demanding the beneficiary housing list a R339 million housing development gathered on Monday at the Mountain View projects on Tuesday
Brumilda Amsterdam has been waiting for a house since 2010. She is 39 now. She still lives with her husband in a backyard dwelling at her in-laws' home in Mossel Bay, sharing space that was never meant to hold a family long-term.
She applied again in 2022, the year when 242 units were added as part of the R339 million Mountain View development. She was told she no longer qualified. Nobody explained why. Nobody told her about the First Home Finance programme, how to apply, or whether she stood a chance.
"No one is helpful because we simply don't know what is going on," she said.
Aldorin April's story runs a similar course, just with more twists. Placed on the RDP list first, then redirected to rent-to-buy, then told in 2024 that she no longer qualified for that either.
