Merely studying books is not enough to succeed in legal profession and a lawyer’s true success lies in gaining the trust of clients in an honest manner, Justice V. Mohana, Judge, Supreme Court of India, said on Wednesday (July 08, 2026).Addressing graduates at the third convocation ceremony held at the Government Law College in Coimbatore, Justice Mohana urged them to update themselves to meet the requirements of the clients in the dynamically changing environment and explore new domains of the legal profession. As an alumnus of the law college belonging to the 1983-88 batch, the Judge remarked that it was an honour for her to stand in academic regalia for the convocation at her alma mater, as she could not attend her own graduation ceremony.Minister for Energy Resources and Law R. Nirmalkumar, who presided over the ceremony, said the judicial infrastructure in the State will be improved during the five years of the new government. Wide array of opportunities await law graduates, he told the graduates.Justice Mohana and Mr. Nirmalkumar presented degrees to about 650 graduates, in the presence of Justice V. Bharathidasan, former Judge, Madras High Court, and chairman of Convenor Committee of the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University; E. Om Prakash, Senior Advocate, Madras High Court, and member of Convenor Committee of Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University; Gowri Ramesh, Registrar, Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, and Director of Legal Studies (FAC), Government of Tamil Nadu; and K.S. Gopalakrishnan, principal, Government Law College, Coimbatore.Meanwhile, some of the relatives and family members of the graduates, who came to witness the ceremony, said that they had to sit on the ground outside the auditorium due to lack of adequate seating arrangements.
