Sakhi One-Stop Centres serve as a last resort for women in distress and provide a sense of reassurance to those subjected to various forms of violence, Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja said on Wednesday.She was addressing an awareness seminar organised jointly by the Andhra Pradesh State Women’s Commission and the National Commission for Women (NCW) at the Government General Hospital in Nellore. Staff from 14 Sakhi One-Stop Centres, covering Guntur and the Rayalaseema region, attended the programme. The sessions focused on trauma-informed care, mental health, self-care and effective service delivery for women affected by violence.Dr. Sailaja said the centres support women facing physical abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence and acid attacks by providing medical care, legal aid, police assistance, FIR registration and counselling under one roof while ensuring sensitivity and dignity.She said the training helped participants better understand the psychological condition of survivors and provide assistance without causing re-traumatisation. She stressed that protecting the mental well-being of Sakhi staff, who regularly deal with traumatic cases, was equally important.The programme also covered self-care practices to help staff manage work-related stress and improve the quality of support extended to survivors. During the interactive session, participants raised field-level challenges and sought clarifications from experts.
