The Bihar government on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) announced plans to fill up 927 posts of teachers through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) for Plus Two girls’ residential schools.The schools are run by the Backward Classes and Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) Welfare Department, and the posts will be filled by the Commission through Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE)-4.Announcing the decision at a press meet in Patna, BC and EBC Welfare Department Minister Rama Nishad said that the department has sent a requisition to the BPSC to fill up 927 posts.The Minister, who was accompanied by the department’s Additional Chief Secretary K. Senthil Kumar, said that 438 teachers have already been appointed against sanctioned posts in Plus Two girls’ residential schools.These include 15 principals, 173 higher secondary teachers, 119 secondary teachers and 131 primary teachers, she said.More schoolsStating that Plus Two girls’ residential schools are currently run at the district level, Ms. Nishad announced that the government has now decided to open such schools for both girls and boys at the sub-divisional level.“The government is actively working to open 520-bed +2 girls’ residential schools and 720-bed boys’ residential schools at the sub-divisional level,” she said, adding that there are 39 Plus Two girls’ residential schools currently operational in the State. Replying to a query on how long it would take the schools to be operational at the sub-divisional level, she said that it is under process and the schools are likely to be made operational during the current academic session.More JNKT hostelsConsidering the future requirement for hostel facilities for BC and EBC students, the department has initiated the process of constructing 100-bed Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur (JNKT) hostels for girls at the district and sub-divisional levels and for boys at the divisional level, the Minister said.Notably, 100-bed JNKT hostels for girls and boys have been functioning in all 38 districts since 2008-09. In all, 2,962 students are currently enrolled against the total capacity of 3,800 seats.Ms. Nishad asserted that her department is also working on a proposal to establish 10 Sainik schools for students from backward classes. Besides, a portal will soon be launched through which the public and students can submit complaints and suggestions vis-à-vis various schemes run by the department. She further said that the department is preparing a plan to introduce “Mukhya Mantri Pichhra Varg Evam Ati Pichhra Varg Abhyuday Yojana”, under which students will be given financial assistance and coaching for competitive examinations such as CLAT and NIFT as well as for pursuing higher studies abroad. The Minister also said that she has urged both the Centre and the State government to provide laptops worth up to ₹50,000 to girl students either preparing for police and fire services recruitment exams or pursuing Intermediate or technical courses to help them become self-reliant.
