BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Tuesday criticised what he called the "double standard" of the Congress over the Mekedatu issue. He criticised the statements made by Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president B. Manickam Tagore that his party would not allow neighbouring Karnataka to construct a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu. "While Congress government is ruling Karnataka, Mr. Tagore is staging a drama as if another party is ruling that State and as if he is opposing that government in that State," Mr. Nagenthran charged. He contended that Mr. Tagore's statements exposed that the Congress has been consistently betraying the people of Tamil Nadu. While it was sufficient for Mr. Tagore to either speak to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi or Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar over the phone once, Mr. Nagenthran said that instead of that, Mr. Tagore was cheating the people by making hollow promises against the project in Mekedatu.
