Customers in communities across England, Scotland and Wales face losing local postal services as part of the supermarket giant's plans to close around 100 Morrisons Daily shops.‌At least 52 Post Office branches are expected to shut by early October, according to analysis of Post Office consultation documents by Better Retailing. Many of the affected branches are in southern England, although closures are also planned in Wales, Scotland and northern England.‌The Post Office is understood to be looking for replacement shops that could host services in affected communities. Morrisons said the shops had been unprofitable for years and that the situation had been made worse by significant cost increases linked to government policy decisions.‌The chain previously described the move and associated job losses as a “tough but necessary decision”. The affected convenience stores were acquired as part of Morrisons' £190m rescue deal for McColl's in 2022.‌The supermarket is consulting with affected staff and has previously said it would look to offer workers alternative roles elsewhere in the business where possible.
