Sir Elton John has announced he's postponing his retirement once again, adding two new tour dates to his farewell tour, three years after his tour supposed to end.The Tiny Dancer singer took to social media to announce he'd be performing twice in October in Mexico City: "I am excited to announce that I will be performing two nights at Banorte Stadium on 2 and 3 October. Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart. He added that he made this addition to his tour after having to previously scrap some dates due to the pandemic: "I was truly disappointed that the pandemic kept me from touring Latin America during my Farewell tour which makes this return especially meaningful."I’m thrilled to finally share this very special moment with my fans after all these years…"This announcement comes amid several health issues for the star. In 2024 he revealed he'd lost his vision in one eye and was struggling with poor vision in his other eye. He's also faced several operations across his body. Speaking t o Variety in 2025, he said: "“Because I lost my right eye and my left eye’s not so good, the last 15 months have been challenging for me because I haven’t been able to see anything, watch anything, read anything."“I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate, I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee,” he said of his health at the premiere of the documentary Elton John: Never Too Late. “In fact, the only thing left to me is my left hip. But I’m still here.”In 2018, the singer announced his impending retirement from touring with a whopping 330 dates in the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour."It’s time to come off the road so I can fully embrace the next important chapter of my life,” he said at the time. “I need to dedicate more time to raising my children.”The tour was set to begin in Pennsylvania in September 2018, and visit 10 cities across the UK in 2020. But these were later postponed because of the pandemic. The tour officially finished in 2023, with his final show of his UK Tour taking place at Glastonbury Festival in 2023, which he headlined. He said a the time: "There is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans".Sir Elton told Attitude in 2024: "We went to Glastonbury, and we smashed it there, and when I did the last show in Stockholm, I got in the car and David said, ‘How do you feel?’ I went, ‘I’m so happy.’ I understand why Adele wants to stop because there’s more to life. I’ve done nearly over 5,000 shows in my life and I’ve done all there is to do, and so I just knew that my boys and David needed me, and I need them."The 79 year old has two sons with his husband David Furnish who he legally married in 2014. Their sons are Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, who was born in December 2010, and is now 15, and his younger brother, Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, who was born on 11 January 2013 and is currently 13.Although Elton prefers to keep his family out of the spotlight, he has made rare comments about his sons and how they changed him for the better.Speaking to Attitude in 2024, he said: “When David first started managing me and we were talking about a five or six-year plan, he said, ‘Well, you always said you were going to die on the stage because we didn’t have anything else.’ We were two affluent gay people going around the world with a nice philanthropic side to us, but there was no other purpose other than that."Having the children changed everything for the better because now it’s all about them. It’s all about their welfare and their future and it’s not about me and it’s not about him. We’re very comfortable in our relationship."We get better and better and better, but it’s the children that just really inspire us and it’s the most wonderful time of my life at the moment, and that’s pretty amazing."Article continues belowLike this story?
