There are games that are flawless at launch, and then, there are games that have troubled experiences. Cyberpunk 2077 was one of them, launching in 2020 as a buggy mess with glitches, crashes and more on your PC. The game was so unplayable on PlayStation that Sony had to delist the game.Fast forward to 2026, and a brand new update rolls on to the PlayStation 5 Pro, bringing shiny 4K visuals with a whole host of changes. This time last year, Cyberpunk was the crown jewel of the Switch 2 launch lineup, dropping jaws on how good the game looks handheld. Since the first review in 2020, it is clear that a lot has changed and the developers have done a fantastic job in turning the game around.Which is why it is time to revisit it and set the record straight on Cyberpunk 2077 in 2026.V, the protagonist is having a really bad day — what started off as a simple heist, turns into a massive mess with a high profile murder. To add to their problems, a faulty biochip, which they were sent to steal, implanted a ghost in their mind. The good news is, the ghost is played by Keanu Reeves, but it is slowly taking over V’s mind.So with one of the most dangerous corporations on their heels, V has to figure out the origins of this ghost, the chip and survive whatever NightCity has to throw against her. The story is great, and Cyberpunk’s narratives always veer into the tragic for the most part. While not connected directly, watching the excellent, but adult, Cyberpunk Edgerunners on Netflix, is a good starting point to set the tone. Diving into V’s story after that adds a great surge of worldbuilding with Johnny Silverhand’s saga, with a clean segue into the expansion Phantom Liberty that brings in Idris Elba as a sleeper agent. The main quest is a banger with a lot of satisfying moments filled with choices, that bring a level of replayability.NightCity is massive and dense with people, side stories and quests that sometimes hit hard. One innocuous quest starts off with a vending machine beckoning you from a dark alley, and then plays out like an emotion bomb as you experience the concept of sentience in the most normal everyday things. The game has many factions, each with interesting cultures as they adapt to augmented freedoms in different ways. Exploring each one brings their stories to light; every one of them is interesting, including those of the fetch quests. The people you meet along the way are well fleshed out, and quite suitable to form friendships and romances with. You can choose a male or female V and the world reacts to both genders, no matter your choice. Every character is unique, with excellent writing and deep stories. From a grizzly cop with a soft heart to a sentient taxi service AI with multiple personalities or a morally grey heiress of a large corporation, and a beautiful and fiery member of a band of rebels that protect the wastelands.Cyberpunk 2077Publisher: CD Projekt RedDeveloper: CD Projekt RedPrice: Various prices and discounts on PC, PS5, Xbox, Switch 2If you have played the game, you know who they are and you know why you love them. If you have not, you have to find them for yourself and experience why they are so incredible. At launch, the game was a decent first person shooter, with hacking and driving. In 2023, Patch 2.0 elevated the mechanics to another level, bringing the much needed harmony to all its systems. Now, you can spec yourself to be a hard-core ninja using knives, hacking skills and stealth tech, or a street samurai, using imbued katanas to deflect bullets, and take part in truly epic sword fights. There is versatility, from incorporating vehicles into your attack styles, to using various weapons combined with armour, cybernetics, hacking and combat to help you have the most fun.And if you get bored, just reset your character, and re-spec to another build.Driving around NightCity is still iffy; one thing that has remained since launch are the funky car controls that either feel too stiff and floaty or twitchy and unresponsive. That said, a recent patch in 2025 introduced Autodrive, so you can still enjoy the view, but let the car drive you to your destination. There are many modes that fix the driving, which is worth it, because the car selection is wild. With armoured muscle cars bristling with guns, souped up speedsters and luxury sedans, most of the time one will be doing quests to earn cars. Even though you can drive any car you see in games such as Grand Theft Auto, you will find those boring compared to the vehicles you can “summon” from your garage here. Watch out for Cyberpunk’s version of the Batmobile — it is an easy-to-miss gem. Every company from Nvidia to Nintendo showcases Cyberpunk as their graphics poster child. It was not only the first to adopt new technologies, the game constantly stayed up top as one of the best games out there from a diverse and extremely detailed NPC to excellent environment design and cutting edge fashion. Everything screams Cyberpunk, especially visiting the glowing city centre at night. For a game this good looking, you actually need modest specs to make it run right, and keep it looking good. If you have been waiting on Cyberpunk 2077, now is the time. There are always sales happening and you can get one of the best games out there today, for a steal.
