SpaceXAI and Cursor could ship their first jointly built AI model as soon as Wednesday, according to The Information. An internal memo pits it against Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.5.
Elon Musk’s freshly renamed AI company is about to test itself against the frontier. SpaceXAI and Cursor plan to launch their first jointly developed model as soon as Wednesday, The Information reports, citing an internal memo.
The companies pushed the launch back earlier in the week to sharpen the model’s efficiency, the memo said. They want it to process information fast. That would make it competitive, in some respects, with Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 and OpenAI’s GPT-5.5. OpenAI has since won clearance for a broader GPT-5.6 rollout.
A model with two parents
The pairing is no coincidence. SpaceX will buy Cursor, the AI coding tool, in a $60bn all-stock deal. The two sides have built together for months.
