One ITV World Cup commentator was left concerned about the potential impact of a remark he made about one of his former employers12:29, 08 Jul 2026ITV co-commentator Andros Townsend predicted the "complaints are coming" as a result of his comment about MK Dons on World Cup commentary. The former England winger was commentating during Tuesday's clash between Switzerland and Colombia when he made a remark that may upset some at his old club.‌Townsend, 34, was on mic duties for the round-of-16 tie in Vancouver when the topic of sports franchises came up. The former Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Everton winger corrected ITV colleague Seb Hutchinson over correctly referring to certain sports teams in the United States as "franchises" and "not clubs."‌Hutchinson then pointed out "we don't have franchises in football," which is technically true. However, Townsend joked about one potential exception to the rule that a certain fanbase may wish he hadn't.‌"There might be one... Milton Keynes," said the forward, who has been plying his trade in Thailand for the past year. Hutchinson was quick to respond that he'd "stay out of that one" before Townsend joked: "The complaints are coming again. Sorry, sorry."JOIN US ON FACEBOOK!
