Jupiter Telecommunications (JCOM), a Japanese broadband and electrical services operator, has signed a solar virtual Power Purchase Agreement (vPPA) with Japanese energy group Osaka Gas Co.First reported by Renewables Now, the agreement will see Osaka Gas, alongside its subsidiary Daigas Energy, supply renewable power and environmental credits to JCOM facilities in western Japan. The power will be derived from new solar projects, with delivery expected to start in October 2028. The exact capacity set to be supplied under the vPPA was not disclosed.According to JCOM, the vPPA will support its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. Founded in 1995 and based in Tokyo, Japan, the company is owned as part of a joint venture between KDDI Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation. The company's core infrastructure consists of localized headends and data centers.Despite offering a mobile service, the company does not own or operate cellular base stations or mobile towers; instead, it operates purely as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), leasing the wireless cellular equipment, frequencies, and towers from its parent company, KDDI.Osaka Gas is one of Japan’s oldest energy utilities, serving more than 68 million households. It supplies and sells gas and electricity across Japan.
